Dick Chadwick

Richard Allen Chadwick died December 18, 2001 in Peoria, Illinois. Dick was born in Alton, Illinois on August 29, 1942, the son of Paul and Isabel Chadwick. He graduated from Alton Senior High School in 1960.

   Dick served his country in the Air Force, stationed in Japan and Alaska. He pursued his education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, obtaining a bachelors degree in history. 

   He taught Russian for several years at Monticello College, which is now Lewis and Clark College, in Godfrey.  Through an investment company he started, Benchmark and Associates, Dick owned and managed housing complexes. 

    Dick enjoyed riding motorcycles, The Muny Opera, history, drawing, trips to Chicago, and languages. His favorite outlet later in life was Toastmaster’s Club, a forum where he could exercise his love of public speaking.

    “My dad was an intelligent, interesting man who spent a lot of time studying the how to’s of life itself. His wit and humor are what I fondly remember. He was happiest during his early adult years,” said his daughter, Jennifer Jarrett. “His life and death have left those who loved him many memories and much inspiration.”

    During the last decade of his life, Dick spent as much time as possible with his father, and his siblings Paul (Don), Shirley and Ruth Ann.

    Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Chadwick Jarrett, Alton, IL and son, Matt Chadwick, Naples FLA. He also is survived by his siblings.

   Burial was in Valhalla Cemetery, Godfrey, IL. Memorials may be sent to the Boys and Girls club of Alton.
