WOOD RIVER

          Virginia Rose "Gina” Baker, 60, died at 2:55 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002 at her home. The daughter of Earl and Grace (Grisham) Stilley, she was born Dec. 31, 1941, in Harrisburg IL.

 

 

          She married Richard Baker Aug. 20, 1960, in Harrisburg. He survives.

 

          She was a graduate of AltonHigh School and an inspector for Olin Corp. for five years and worked in the stock room for J.C. Penney for six years. She enjoyed her grandchildren, being a homemaker and playing slot machines. Very concerned about her attire, she would get up early and iron her clothes. She also loved to travel.

          In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rona and Dr. Gary Swart of Minden, LA; two sons, Richard Baker and his wife, Jamie, of Houston, TX, and Ryan Baker of Rosewood Heights; five grandchildren, Jodi Baker, Casey Baker Elliott, Zack Swart and Kaitlin and Kolton Baker; three sisters and their spouses, Delores and Gene Ringuette of Carbondale, Earlene and Everett “Jeff” Jefferson of San Jose, CA, and Diana Stilley of Wood River; two brothers and their spouses, Morris and Jackie Stilley of Bethalto and John and Jonnie Stilley of Lubbock TX; her mother-in-law Alberta Baker of Wood River; nieces; nephews; in-laws; other family members and many friends.

          She was preceded in death by her parents.

          Visitation and services were held at Marks Mortuary in WoodRiver with the Rev. Richard Tudor officiating.

          Burial was at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

          Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Larry Donahue

I did not know until this list that Virginia was gone. Her and June Ayres were like sisters in junior and sr. high. They both went to church and would come to youth fellowship, that is where I got to know them. She was a happy person.

I remember Ginna as such a happy,fun gal to be around. I didn't know about her passing either.....Will miss her at the reunion...

I'm so sorry to learn that Virginia is gone.  She was such a sweet girl, very energetic and had incredible  dimples.   Such a pretty girl that I'm sure became a lovely woman.

I find it hard to believe that she has slipped away.  Last reunion she and her husband spent alot of time on the dance floor.....good dancers!  Just like usual she was cheery & full of smiles .......the same "Gina" like at AHS.   She will be missed by all at the reunion!!
