ALTON

Mary Gail Curvey, 59, died at 11: 05 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at her home. A daughter of the late Robert William and Dorothy W. (Closterman) Curvey,  she was born March 6, 1942, in Alton.

After retiring in 1992 from Alton Mental Health Center where she was a social worker, she continued her field as a social worker for various places in the Alton area. She most recently worked at Vieth's Restaurant in Alton. A member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton, she received a bachelor's degree and her master's degree in sociology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Surviving are a brother-inlaw, Robert F. Kieninger of Godfrey; a niece and her husband, Lisa and Bill Raines of Jerseyville; a nephew and his wife, Brian and Tara Kieninger of Pawnee; two great-nieces, Megan Raines of Jerseyville and Mia Kieninger of Pawnee; a great-nephew, Tanner Raines of Jerseyville; an aunt Agnes Widicus of Corvallis.OR.; an uncle, Delbert Linn of Edwardsville; and special friends, Tessie Bivens and her children, Cynthia and Shawn Reeves.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis M. Kieninger.

There was no visitation. Memorial services were conducted at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Private burial was at ValleyViewCemetery in Edwardsville.

I knew Gail long before we entered school. She lived next to my Great-Grandma and we would often play together. She learned to function well with her ill formed hand, but later hid it under a ugly cheap plastic looking hand. Sweet gal, shy, smart, and sad. Miss you Gail.
