ANNIE COVINGTON

 

ALTON - Annie L. Covington, 53, died at 12:15 am Wednesday, May 1, 1996. at her home after an extended illness. Born July 3, 1942, in Sikeston, Mo., she was the daughter of Fannie (Walton) Holmes of Alton and the late Atlas Laster. She was a licensed practical nurse at Colonial Nursing Home in Granite City. In addition to her mother, surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Collette and David Ross of Carbondale and Paula Shelby of Alton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tommie and Alice Covington Jr. of Alton and Mark Covington of Alton; a daughter whom she raised, Rosalie, and her husband, Raymond Searles of LaMarque, Texas; eight grandchildren; six sisters, Gloria Ann Muriel of Toledo, Ohio, Frances Davenport of  Markham, Margaret Mayberry, Phyllis Khaaliq and Cathy Laster, all of Carbondale, and Rhonda Laster of Jackson, Miss.; and three brothers, A.J. Laster Jr. of Clayton, Mo., Early Laster of Danville and John Laster of Carbondale. Preceding her in death was her stepfather, Gus T. Holmes. Visitation was from 9 a.m. Saturday until service time at 11 a.m. at Church of Christ in Godfrey, where she was a member. The Rev. David McElwain officiated. Burial was in Upper Alton Cemetery. Williams Mortuary of Alton was in charge of arrangements

Sue Weissenfluh (Rexford)

Annie and I shared many classes together in High School.  She was an extremely good person, great personality and a loyal friend.  Rest in peace my dear friend.
