Georgia A. Esters, 67, died at 11:32 p.m. M o n d a y , April 13, 2009, at her home, with her family by her side. She was born June 26, 1941, in B r u c e , Miss., to Tommie and Deborah (Stein) Covington.

She was a graduate of Alton High School and East St. Louis State Community College. Her marriage to James Esters took place on July 12, 1977, in New Mexico.  He survives.

She was employed with School District 189 in East St. Louis, retiring in May of 2003 after 30 years of service. She was a member of Deliverance Temple Complex Church of God in Christ, where she served as a minister and on the board of trustees.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, LaSonia (Preston) Blackmon-Cousett and Teresa Irene Blackmon, both of Alton, and Jocelyne Cottin-Esters of Paris, France; one son, Barnard (MeMe) Blackmon of Doha, Qatar; 12 grandchildren, Clarence "Rico" (Ashaunte), Barnard "B.J.," Isaiah, Chanel, Tra', LaSha', Ta'Ya, Albriea, Solomon, Sade, Rebekka and Mia; greatgrandchildren, Rianca and Amiyah; daughter-in law, Sarah Blackmon of Killeen, TX; two brothers, the Rev. Tommie C. (Joyce) Covington of St. Charles, MO, and Fred (Vivian) Covington of Corpus Cove, TX; five sisters, Comoria Stewart, Elizabeth (Scott) Brooks and Dianna (Willie) Russell, all of Joliet, IL, and Dorothy Robinson of East St. Louis, Rosalie Searles of Texas City, TX; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert C. Esters, Mary A. Esters, and Johnnie B. Rogers, all of Hattiesburg, Miss,, Willie Muriel (Andrew) Tucker of Chicago, Ora C, Esters of Stone Mountain, GA, Tommie F. (Bill) Farmer of Athens, GA, Arrillia Covington of Crowley, TX, and Elanora Blackmon of Centreville, IL, Raymond "Chip" Searles of Dallas, TX; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Albert Blackmon III; grandson, Michael James Blackmon-Ells; and a brother, Joe Louis Covington

Visitation and services were at Deliverance Temple Complex. Elder Gregory L. Harrison  officiated. Cathy M. Williams & Sons Funeral Home in Alton in charge
