Chuck and I go way back. It was always a blast to talk or be with him. What a memory he had! History, people, players etc.. He loved his family and friends, and you were lucky to be counted as one of them. I was very lucky to have known him, and I will miss him. Debbie and I send our prayers to Jan and family, we are and will be thinking of you all.

I lost a good friend, our class lost a good friend and Texas A&M lost their #1 fan.

Chuck had a love of football that was special, he was a good football player, playing center for West Jr.. Alton High and even went out for football at a University at an age most would not think of, I think he told me he was close to 30 yrs. of age. Chuck played a position that normally was played by guys who were as big as trucks, in High school he played accross the line from a player from Collinsville who weighed in at a mere 400lbs, and thats the way it was for him, always out sized but never out fought. He studied the game and knew what stradegy to use on those big guys. Had Chuck been bigger who knows where his football love would have taken him, I'm guessing pretty far.

Like Bill said he had a good mind for sports history, the Civil War and kept up on what was going on with many of his classmates. How many of you could name the starting line up of the Cobden Apple knockers ( a very small H.S.basketball team that almost won the state tourney back when the little schools were thrown in the mix with the big schools) Chuck could name them along with many other facts. His knowledge of the Civil War put him on par with college Professors teaching the subject.

I will miss the calls from Chuck , as we would reminise the good old days, but I will always remember him as a friend and will think of him from time to time when watching sporting events and other reminders of him.

To Janis and the Family, My Wife and I send our condolences

Larry

I wasn't a close friend of Chuck's but he was friend to everyone.  He was always smiling and laughing.  We both worked at Tri-City Grocery and he wrote in my Tatler, "I hope I get a raise soon so I will be making more than you make."  We were making about $1.50 per hour then. I bought a greeting card for Chuck yersterday and planned to sent it today.  Too bad.  Rest in peace, friend.
